Bitmain Launches Antminer L9 With Enhanced 16 GH/s Capacity for Scrypt-Based Coins

Bitmain has announced the release of the Antminer L9, an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) miner tailored for coins that use the Scrypt algorithm, such as litecoin and dogecoin. The company reports that this new model provides 16 gigahash per second (GH/s) in hashing power and achieves an energy efficiency of 210 joules per gigahash (J/G).

From L7 to L9: Bitmain’s Newest ASIC Miner Elevates Scrypt Mining

The newly unveiled Antminer L9 is set to replace the older L7 model, which had a capacity of 9 GH/s. This upgrade boosts the output to 16 GH/s, maintaining an energy efficiency of 210 J/T. During the announcement, Bitmain also highlighted a promotional offer: anyone correctly predicting the L9’s price from June 4-6 will receive a $2,000 discount on their L9 purchase.

This latest device is engineered for mining Scrypt-based cryptocurrencies, including dogecoin, litecoin, digibyte, among others. Currently, asicminervalue.com ranks the L9 as the sixth most profitable miner available, with potential earnings of just over $30 daily. This estimate assumes an operational expenditure (OPEX) of $0.12 per kilowatt hour (kWh), with the unit consuming 3,360 watts (W).

With Bitmain’s strategic move to replace the Antminer L7 with the more powerful L9, the mining landscape for Scrypt algorithm coins is set to evolve. The enhanced 16 GH/s performance and improved energy efficiency signal a shift towards more cost-effective mining operations this year. Currently, the cost of the Antminer L9 remains undisclosed; however, for context, Bitmain priced the L7 at $6,335 each. The company’s online store indicates that the L7 is no longer available for sale.
