Helium Mobile Developer Now Licenses Its Tech Stack

Helium Mobile is launching a licensing program for its hotspot devices, the cell plan provider announced Tuesday. Helium Mobile hotspots allow individuals or businesses to install “mini cell towers” that provide cell coverage and pay out tokens in return. According to the Helium website, there are already several third-party manufacturers and providers of the Helium Internet of Things (IoT) network, but Helium Mobile is currently the only provider of cell phone coverage devices.

Through the licensing program, Helium Mobile hopes to capture licensing fees from hotspots manufactured elsewhere while expanding its growing cell network. According to Dune’s dashboard, Helium Mobile has recorded a total of 93,898 registrations. The dashboard does not track potential subscription cancellations, so the number of active subscribers may be lower.

Before Nova Labs developed Helium Mobile, the same team created an Internet of Things network with a similar Web3 engine to control devices such as e-scooters. Users have been using Helium wireless access points for years, and the IoT network supports “dozens” of third-party devices.
